Is satellite radio worth the money?
I work as a Software Engineer, so I listen to music pretty much all day. I am actually starting to get sick of the 4,000 songs on my iPod!! My friend was up this past weekend and he has XM radio in his car, and the Hip-Hop xL station was playing songs that literally came out DAYS ago (They played the Green and Yellow – Lil Wayne song!) and I was pretty impressed. Is there any way to make like “playlists” so that you are not stuck in one super specific genre? Thanks!!
The audio quality is horrible, I would rather hear a song played on AM radio than over XM or Sirrius. It wasn’t that bad before 2006, but then they lowered the audio quality, in an attempt to cram more channels in the same amount of bandwidth, and if you listen to music on satellite radio for 10 minutes, then change and listen to an FM radio station, WOW, it is like switching from AM radio to a CD!
It also used to be commercial free, and with no DJs, but now they added annoying DJs and commercials.
Once you have service, they will continue to charge your credit card without your permission to renew, even if they don’t know your credit card expiration date! I don’t know how they were allowed to do this, but I finally had to have my credit card number changed so they could not charge it anymore. So now they are sending me nasty letters from a collection agency saying I owe them money, because they can’t illegally charge my credit card anymore.
Also, once you get used to a certain channel that you like, they will take it away, then say you can only listen to it online via their website. During Christmas, they will remove several channels and replace them with Christmas music, so you won’t get to hear those channels you liked for about a month or two.
4,000 songs is a lot more variety than you will get from XM Sirrius!
It is very easy to get sick of the same songs they rotate over and over again.
No way to make playlists, just as you can’t make playlists from any of the FM stations on the radio. This is a RADIO, not a hardrive of audio files.
But the audio quality is really really bad. I would listen to a syndicated radio program on the local AM radio station because it sounded a lot better on my ears than listening to the same program over XM Sirrius.
Also, the FCC didn’t allow them to raise their rates for 3 years, in exchange for XM and Sirrius to merge into one company. But that ends later this year, so expect they will be raising their rates at least 3 times what they are today, in order to make up for the past 3 years of not being allowed to raise rates by the FCC.
