Is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame becoming a big joke?

IN:
Madonna, Leonard Cohen, Bobby Darin, LaVern Baker, Jimmy Reed, Johnny Cash, Ruth Brown, Lloyd Price, Dusty Springfield, The Staple Singers, The Moonglows, Brenda Lee, Gene Ptney, Percy Sledge, Miles Davis.

Not IN:
Alice Cooper, The Moody Blues, Rush, Yes, Chicago, Kiss, Steve Miller Band, Kansas, Steppenwolf, Emerson – Lake & Palmer, Canned Heat, Warren Zevon, Blue Oyster Cult, Electric Light Orchestra, Genesis, Jeff Beck, Dire Straits, Ten Years After, Mountain, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rick Wakeman, Guess Who, Journey, Cars, Cheap Trick, ELO, Metallica, Deep Purple, Doobie Brothers, Pat Benetar.

Yes — It is more Pop music Hall of Fame than Rock n Roll. I can see why some of the above folks are in because they are the early pioneers of American music, which eventually became pop and rock.

Many of the folks on the outs won’t make it in for several more years. Alice Cooper, Kiss, Kansas, Steppenwolf, ELO, Ten Years After, Mountain, Rick Wakeman, Journey, Deep Purple, Pat Benetar and others bodies of work in CRITICS eyes does not stand up to be timeless. Some of these I can see why. Take for instance the argument that Bad Company should be in and are not. The reason is B.C. was a popular band but not a critically acclaimed band. Critics really are the ones who vote these folks in. As the voting populace for the Rock Hall gets younger you may see more folks getting in.

But yeah, it’s all pretty much a political hustle and back room dealings with the record companies to give certain folks a push at a certain time. Sorry about it, but I don’t hold much stock in these anymore. The ceremonies are also a joke anymore, as well. Just keep spinning your vinyl and flipping the finger at the rock hall establishment I say.

Also known as the “rune” album or Zoso because of the medieval symbols adorning the inner sleeve, Led Zeppelin’s fourth album, released in 1971, turned them from mere superstars into giant behemoths of the rock world.
