Rock And Roll Ideology

Mayer vs. Frusciante?

One of the greatest debates of all time is who the greatest guitarist ever to live was. Many call upon their idol–and an incredible pioneer/innovator–Jimmy Hendrix as the king of rock and roll, while others turn to jazz legends such as Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass; still others find bluesy comfort in B.B. King’s swooning solos.

My question to all of you is not who is the best overall, but who is the best out of the following two modern superstars: John Mayer or John Frusciante? Keep in mind that although they have different styles, tones, etc., I’d like to apply the economic ideology of “ceteris paribus” here…that is, holding all other things equal EXCEPT their playing ability, songwriting ability, natural improvisational skills, and pure stage presence. Feel free to comment on either’s singing as well, and back up your arguments with video support from YouTube.

Thanks guys!

I’m not into Mayer so naturally i’m frusciante biased.
Lets just quote some stats & opinions
1) Mayer is considered highly HIGHLY overrated by the blues community as a guitarist/musician
2) Frusciante has been recognised as the best guitarist of the past 30 years
3) Frusciante has been a HUGE influence on modern rock/funk music
4) His solo albums get universal praise
5) as a musician more so than a guitarist, Frusciante is one of the tops on the avant garde/experimental area
6) Frusciatne lives & breathes music & is very charitable to music programs for kids
7) The numerous awards he has won

THAT being said its really just apples & oranges when it comes to guitarists, but i truly believe Frusciante is off the richter scale compared to alot of modern music genres (from blues-jazz (not so much)-funk-rock
