Music Nerds

Musicians show their nerd-flag as a badge of honor. They write songs about popular geek or general science fiction and knob kitchen with icons of another sort. Others minimize the cerebral side of themselves, choosing instead to focus on the theater of his own music. Here are ten artists who are nerds hands down, either 'come out' or not about their tendencies nerd!

5) Brad Paisley. Brad is responsible of 'online' dweeb anthem the charts. The video, which shows both Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame and Bill Shatner, he was selected Video of the Year at the Country Music Awards 2007. As for Brad himself, he was awarded a full scholarship to the ASCAP Belmont University, where he graduated with a degree in music business administration before starting soon as one of the biggest names in country music. Unlike some other country artists male Paisley has never been involved in drunken bar fights, throwing political mud, drug abuse, or disrespect towards women. He chooses instead to write and sing about clean fun, love and life in the country. Married to a beautiful actress, the father of two children, and squeaky-clean nature, Brad is a success story nerd!

4) Alfred "Weird Al" Yankovic. With popular titles such as "White and Nerdy", "Start Sage" and "It's All About the Pentiums", Weird Al is a smart artist, fun, who strives to maintain a more "unless the family image." He played the accordion since the day before he was six years old, was named best student in high school, and graduated from Polytechnic State University California with a degree in architecture. Al also was a member of the National Forensic League, was on the yearbook staff and was also in the Volcano Club faithful who Al and friends created exclusively to another photo in the yearbook.

3) Dexter Holland, lead singer and guitarist of The Offspring. It's hard to believe the guy screaming and crying her way through "Come Out And Play" and "Want You Bad" was once a doctoral student in molecular biology at the University of Southern California, but true. The valedictorian of Pacifica High School, Dexter got his degree in biology and a master's degree in molecular biology before leaving doctorate to focus on their musical goals. With an active career and touring schedule from 1994 to 2007 (until the band took a break), it seems the Netherlands took a astute decision.

2) David Draiman, lead singer of Disturbed. After attending various Jewish schools in his youth, after three specialized in Philosophy, Business Administration and Political Science at Loyola University Draiman. After school, he was a medical assistant. Interested in music, came to audition for altered original songs already written, that shows intelligence and initiative. He now has 37 and touring with Marilyn Manson, Ozzy Osbourne, and System of a Down, intelligence Draiman have landed him in the vanguard of heavy metal since 1996 and still going strong.

1) Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel Simon and Garfunkel. Both men are educated and talented. Simon earned a degree in English literature from Queens College before attending Brooklyn College for a brief Law. Garfunkel earned his Bachelor of Arts in Art History and continued up to his master's degree in mathematics. Together, the duo spent Education to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and won several Grammy awards.

So there you have it. Musicians of all genres may be nerdy, intelligent and successful. So pick up that guitar or accordion, and be proud of your nerdiness!
