pop music demographics
Different music for different genders?

Alright, so last week I asked about violence and the like in metal music, so I have a follow-up question.

Do certain types of music market to certain genders? I mean the obvious answer is yes, but why? Demographics (race, age, nationality, etc) aside, purely focus on gender.

I know of some “girl pop” songs that I actually enjoy listening to, and I know girls who like the hard stuff as much as me, but they are the exception.

So why do the different genders listen to different music, culture or actual psychological preference
I suppose that the last paragraph, where the sentence says different music, culture, should have a semicolon instead of a comma for the coherence of the sentence.

I think it’s mostly socialization. Society tells us, oh hey, girls listen to pop and slow songs! Boys listen to rock and rap! I wonder sometimes how many of our interests are actually legitimate or spawned from what society tells us is acceptable or enjoyable.

I do listen to a mix or guy/girl/whatever music, and I have a pretty eclectic taste, so I don’t know if I should comment? Hmm, interesting question, though.
