How Internet changed the music – A focus on the record company and record store
The Internet has changed the face of world music, brainstorm as a hurricane, leaving devastation in its wake. Some argue that the music industry should have seen it coming and adapt as quickly as possible, while others say it was a touch of arrogance, believing that their business model can not be affected.
Here's a look at how two major players in the industry have been affected, positively or negatively, with the introduction of the World Wide Web, and how the Internet has changed the profit model business that once.
(1) Company Registration
The Internet has changed immensely and changed the way music marketed, sold, distributed and shared. It's a completely different environment to that which existed 20 years ago.
Technological advances have meant the sentence of death for the beloved "CD" with the sales of this format is constantly decreasing. This means that downloading music (most which are illegal) are here to stay.
Music piracy is the relentless challenge facing the industry music today, a problem they have to face head-on in order to survive.
Technologies such as-R 's CD and peer to peer file sharing have made life simply impossible for the record labels. The Internet has changed the speed at which music files can be moved and transferred between people, what hope is a case in relation to policing for the music industry in general.
(2) Music Store
The retail music landscape has been totally transformed by the advent of the Internet. The music of the independent local shops have been virtually eliminated, leaving behind large retail chains and supermarkets, to fight among another by the physical market.
The Internet has changed the business of traditional music store, and was instrumental in the popularity a new player in the market, ie iTunes.
Today, this new company has a monopoly on competition digital music market, representing 70% of worldwide digital music sales online and making it the largest global legal music retailer.
The "Brick" n "mortar" operations have had to find other products to offset the losses incurred from the decline in CD, which is a direct result of how the Internet has changed the music business.
Products such as games, DVD, technology accessories, merchandise (Shirts, books) are all found in the music store, a store that was only once in racks on racks full range of CDs – another clear example of how the Internet has changed the business of retail music.
