The changing face of hip hop
Hip Hop is a music genre that originated in the western United States in the 1960's and was brought to New York in the 1970's by slaves. Hip Hop today has become a recognized art form that has become a global culture.
Characterized by a style rhythmic vocal where the artist speaks in rhymes and / or a rhythmic fashion, Hip Hop has become a means for artists to express themselves freely and with limited rules. It combines elements rap, graffiti, dance and DJing initiating an urban culture that covers fashion, lifestyle, dance, music and language elements.
From Jamaica Chris Campbell, born DJ Kool Herc "the first hip hop DJ and pioneer of hip hop culture Hip Hop presented to the world that created a movement in which people of different beliefs, cultures, races, ethnic and gender groups met and hip hop became a way for youth to express themselves individually and collectively. It became an alternative to the violent gang culture of the Bronx and transformed crime, violence, social decay and economic crisis into something positive to give a voice to the voiceless.
But the future of hip hop is changing at a rapid pace. Artists like Tyga are avoiding the big record labels and instead 're shopping around for an association between the artist and the leading consumer brand. The future of hip-hop is not with Def Jam and Sony Records, that is with the likes of big brands like Coca-Cola, RIM Blackberry or Ford Motor Company. Before the online age, was the dream of every aspiring hip-hop artist to sign the agreement label, get the money in advance, make a music video class and see your album sell millions of copies.
The dreams have disappeared long ago being replaced by a sense of unprecedented marketing music industry. With the advent of online distribution, the label is becoming less and less attractive and artists are turning elsewhere to find the funds needed to launch and promote an album.
It is no secret hip-hop has become the millions of dollars in promotion and media firms to consumers of the brand has to help finance the costs of promotional albums. You could say that the soul of hip hop is being sold to commercial. You can ask if the future of the rest of hip-hop in the hands of Corporate America. I do not think so long as the hip hop artists are selective about the promotions carried out, and not just chasing money. Hip-hop always has been a story of survival in these difficult times for the music industry is without question the survival of the fittest. You can only see a lot more "sponsored" music, with driving the business world artists to produce albums under his own marketing schedule, and be drawn into a larger strategic effort corporate marketing.
