Music Industry Strategy
How I can ask for more responsibility at work?
I have a degree in five years in the management of the music business two and music production and engineering of a very reputable school. I work for a major music corp as an administrative assistant, have been here 8 months. Lately, I've been very boring and challenging. I've asked my boss for more work, but just give me meaningless tasks such as providing additional or things of the organization. Nothing exciting, rewarding thing. I push paper around. I feel very unappreciated and underutilized, given the skill set that brought this work in my education, experiential learning and the experience of other industry professionals. What other approaches I can use to ask for more responsibility? Want a challenge, I work hard, yet I feel that my best efforts to communicate this have fallen on deaf ears. I feel very frustrated. Any strategy would helpful!
What are looking for a different job where you can apply their talents in the company. Taking an administrative assistant job is not necessarily a bad thing to get your foot in the door of this company. What you need to do now is to do a great job as an administrative assistant to have a good reputation and to build relationship with administrators as much within the company as they can. One technique for doing this is to set up informational interviews with different managers. Tell them you want to know more about your area so you can identify areas that might be able to make an impact in the future. Most are very good that say no. Impressive when you meet them. Research your area beforehand and ask good questions. Even better, contribute ideas that you may have learned in school that may be relevant to your business area. Somewhere in the work in the discussion that has two degrees and hopes to develop the highest level of opportunity through time. Make sure the discussion is about them and not you though. Learn all you can about the person and use it as an excuse to stay in touch with them (not is an irritant, though – do something like e-mailing an article that you think they would be interested in). Write down everything after Meeting so intereste not confused with another manager. Good luck
