Music Industry Ringtones
Hip Hop’s death? who’s responsible?
Who is responsible for the death of mainstream rap? Feel free to point fingers, I want to hear different perspectives.
I think the guy who invented napster is to blame.
Here’s the breakdown
1. He made music free about 2000.
2. It became a popular program and spawned many others like and more people got computers around its creation.
3. People that listen to rap are to real to buy something thats free.
4. The industry loses tons of money and has to redirect its target market.
5. Rap is changed to accomodate the people that still buy music (white people) by changing production to fit a more “pop” style
6. They sell rap through singles and ringtones through things like itunes.
7. The charts and projections show that this strategy is working and people imitate it.
Which then leads to the current state of mainstream rap.
Just mainstream. We know the underground didn’t go nowhere
if you actually think about it the death of music, not just hiphop, in general, died because of the internet. Suddenly peoples talent goes to waste because anybody can download the music for free. Why would artists bother making hot music anymore? Hot music is what made the sales increase and the $$$$ increase. The new generation of people don’t know shit about music so they listen to whatever is on the radio if its got a good beat and chorus because thats all that matters. Just my opinion
