Original Carter Family the most influential–agree or disagree?
I am bored…and there are currently no questions posted about the Original Carter Family…So I am posting one.
Do you agree or disagree that they are the most influential people in country music? Why?
In my opinion:
They are the most influential because even if not everyone appreciates their singing voices–not only did they INVENT country music, but Maybelle INVENTED a whole new style of picking guitar.
Their songs are covered time and time again..and they had no one to lead them by example. They truly pioneered in the music industry because, essentially, all other forms of music spawned off the very early country folksy music.
Who is your favourite– Sara, AP, or Maybelle?
Who is your favourite second generation? Mine is June
Who is your favourite third generation? Mine is Carlene Carter
Fourth? I don’t have a preference.
And please if you answer, give me reasons.
I guess that I’d say that they are the most influential in country music indirectly. For instance, they did create country and, because of that, every country artist is influenced by them but might not actually listen to them and might not even know who they are. It’s kind of like artists who are influenced by the Beatles. Some of them have never listened to Chuck Berry or Chet Atkins and, because of the fact that Berry and Atkins influenced the Beatles, the artist who likes the Beatles would be indirectly influenced by Berry and Atkins. Anyway, if you mean a direct influence, I honestly would have to say that I don’t feel that the Carter Family is the most influential in country music…I’d say that either Hank Williams, Sr. or maybe Johnny Cash would be the most influential directly.
Favorite: I guess Maybelle
Second Generation: Not sure
Third Generation: Not sure
Fourth: Once again, I’m not sure
Also, I know what you mean about Maybelle and her style of playing guitar.
