Should stars have more control over their music?
UK pop and rock stars are signing up to a new pressure group to gain greater ownership of their work. Should artists have more control over their music?
Robbie Williams, Radiohead, Kaiser Chiefs and The Verve are among the acts who have signed up to the Featured Artists’ Coalition.
The group wants artists to keep the rights to the music they create, have a greater say in how their songs are sold – and a bigger slice of the takings.
Talking about the coalition, Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien said: “For us, this is a no-brainer of an issue and we believe that all artists and musicians should be signing up to this too.”
What is the future of the music industry? Should individual acts have more control over their work? Is online technology a threat or liberation to the music industry?
