Are Black Cultural Hairstyles Accepted In The Radio Jobs Industry?
Hello
I live in MI near Detroit and i am going to go to a broadcasting school to learn how to work on the radio as a dj, like playing music and doing remixes and stuff.
I would like to know if black hairstlyes like braids AKA cornrows, dreadlocks and afros accepted when attempting employment at radio stations.
The type of stations that I perfer to work at are Urban contemporary AKA hip hop / r&b music or a non black station with a CHR – Contemporary Hits Radio Format which consists of a mix of todays hip-hop, pop, r&b , rock and some contry music played all on one station.
Look up CHR or Contemporary hits radio http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contemporary_hit_radio
An example of a CHR station where i live in Detroit Area is WVMV FM a former Smooth Jazz Station LINK BELOW

My question is are natural black hairstyles accepted to work at a radio station in America.
I am a 22 year old black man.
Radio stations tend to be hotbeds of contempory fashion. You are more likely to get work looking cool and contemporary than wearing a suit and tie.
Of course it will depend on the particular radio station, hip hop stations are probably more cool, while Contemporary hits might be more corporate.
One of the secrets of success in business and careers is to dress the part you want.
While a DJ might dress in a cool many, a more professional look is likely to put suit wearing management at ease. Maybe you need to find something in between, cool, contemporary but also professional.
While I haven’t worked in radio i have work in the design industry (in training). In this job I had to go to some of our good trainers and tell them, you know, please lose the tie man, this is design, half the trainers here have blue hair.

Rieu addresses the audience in fluent but sometimes charmingly awkward Italian, with English subtitles. From the openin… |
