Music Industry Networking Sites
How can I own a share of a band?
This local group is really amazing and one of my favorites. But they suck at marketing altogether. That happens to be the business I’m in, but not in or around the music industry. I can help them monetize online, build a website and promote them through social networking sites.
But I’m not a manager or an agent. So, contractually, what are my options? What would be reasonable for them to sign? What’s the term on any partnership agreement? How would I phrase it to make sure I can’t get cheated out easily?
I’m not expecting to hit it big with these guys. I fully realize how competitive the industry is. But I like them, and it’s my job anyway which is fun for me to do. So, it’ll be a nice pet project. But I don’t want to end up getting them mildly famous, and then losing all legal interest once they sign with some small time record label.
Advice?
You could buy the copyright off their songs or purchase the rights to gross or net profits on the cd sales and concerts.
