Music Industry Gigs
When did the music industry become a business?
It pisses me off that the only reason people make music anymore is because they want money. What ever happened to making music because of the love of making music?
I am in a 70s/80s style punk band, and we make music because we love to make music. We actually like the music we produce. I am the primary guitarist and vocalist. I amit that I do suck at both, but we have a hell of a lot of fun recording and doing gigs. A lot of people hate our music, but we don’t care. What ever happened to that principle?
I’ve been a musician for over 25 years – guitar, bass, and keyboards. Many musicians – myself included – have our hearts and souls in our music. There are thousands of people recording at home and placing their work on YouTube, SoundClick, MySpace, etc., all for free. Sure many are hoping to be discovered, but many are just doing it out of their passion for music.
The only ones I see really bent on money are the record company execs who “develop” singers or bands and tailor their image to fit a well defined niche. Like the world needs more Britney/Jessica/Jennifer clones.
