Music Industry Booking
Help…need some tips! Does anyone know how to start a career as PR in the music industry?
i already have two degrees in psychology and i don’t think i can go back to university at this point, but i am willing to take courses if necessary.
i was wondering where to start from when it comes to PR in the music industry? what steps should i follow? how can i get useful experience? what magazines or books would be helpful?

Like most jobs if you want steady employment and don’t want to work for free or be self employed with little work your best bet is to get an entry level position in a large company. Try recording companies (Virgin, Sony, etc) usually based in L.A. and try to get an entry level position in their marketing department. You could also try managing bands on the side but the bands you find will probably not be able to pay you very much and it wouldn’t be a steady gig until you really made a name for yourself. Oftentimes the best time to see if you like an industry, and want to make it, is just to jump into the work force and see what happens.
