Music Industry Bio Samples
What should a graphic design portfolio include?
I’m considering applying for an internship at a clothing company (Glamour Kills) who works VERY closely with bands and the music industry as a whole. Anyway, they need graphic design interns and I’m not sure what to include in the e-mail. They said a short bio and a few samples. I plan on making a flickr or something and have a digital portfolio. I was thinking about including some hand drawn pieces.. I plan on starting my own t-shirt line..is that stupid to do like will they think I’m trying to steal their thunder? I’m not sure what to include. I took this year off from college and all of my teachers at my high school kept my work and they said they don’t have it anymore…what kind of pieces should be included?
What does the internship job post say about what you would be doing or what is required of you? That might be a good indication as to what you should include for work samples.
I would suggest sending a PDF file that includes 3-5 examples of design work you have down. It could be illustration examples or a design of a postcard. I don’t think it’s stupid to include your hand drawn samples. Looking at their website, it looks like some of their clothes have illustrations and some are very type driven. So, I would suggest including some typography work as well.
