Music Industry Album Sales

Do you think album sales will change hip hop lyrics?
Rappers keep on saying that they are giving the public what they want. Album sales for the whole music industry was down 11% last year; but hip hop sales were down 22%. In the first quarter of this year, hip hop sales were down 33%. Last year for the first time in years, there were no hip hop albums in the top ten for sales. A few years ago, hip hop started selling more than country for the first time and took the top spot. Country and metal outsold hip hop last year. Does this have to do with the content of lyrics, the quality of music, or both?
I thought it may have to do more with downloading music illegally; but hip hop is being hit harder than every other major genre.
Good question and it’s kinda hard to really say. IMO the quality of most hip hop albums has gone down hill for me and the lyrics are for sure no matter nowadays. I really think the drop in record sales does not have to much to with the lyrics and the quality but the economy of the country. Time are hard people are losing there jobs at an alarming rate and in my city (Philadelphia) people are dying at an alarming rate. I think buy the latest album is the last thing on there minds right now.
