Sellouts within “alternative” music?

Why have fourteen-year-old girls taken over the music industry?

The Academy Is…
All Time Low
Boys Like Girls
Cartel
Cute Is What We Aim For
Fall Out Boy
Jack’s Mannequin
Panic! At The Disco
Quietdrive

The list goes on and on… :’[

Alternative stopped being an actual description of music sometime back in the early 90s. Now it’s just a word that music gets called in order to make it appeal to people who want to be ‘different’ and think that superficial things like the bands they listen to or the clothes they wear have some sort of impact on who they are as a person. As in, “oh I like indie and alternative, therefore I am not like (code for: better than) everyone else.”

Basically it’s a way to prey on young people who are searching and struggling to find an identity and who all too often base their identity not off of who they are but rather off of who they are not.

Sorry to ramble, I have deep rooted feelings about this issue. I think it sucks that people get sold identities by the music industry.

Listen to whatever you want.
