Mp3 Music Burner Software

Can you tell me whether this computer would satisfy my 2 teenage children- Pentium IV Plus 512MB SDRAM, 40GB H

I was wondering if someone could help me as i can use a computer, but what makes a decent computer, I have no idea. Would the following suit my teenage children? they require a PC that they can download music onto their MP3 players and onto a PSP and to download photos etc.
Description: Pentium IV Plus
512 MB SDRAM,
40 GB Harddrive,
Video Card, Sound Card, DVD Burner, Floppy Drive, USB Ports, Keyboard & Mouse, 56k Internal Modem, Speakers, 17” CRT Monitor
Software
Windows XP configured, Winzip and Acrobat Reader
Microsoft Office 2003

At present we are running………. (wait for it) Windows 98, so I suppose anything would be better, but do you think the above is decent?? Its refurbished with 12 months warranty for AUD $285

I run on less power than that, but that’s for a machine I bought 3 years ago, It’s not terrible, but im not sure if it’s worth the money. if you got it, I would reccomend a few upgrades:

Double the amount of ram or more to 1GB+ This can be done for probably less than $50
Buy a large external hard drive or better yet, an internal hard drive, as big as you can afford if you’re going to be downloading music. You could get a 250GB internal hard drive for $80 (will just need a few minutes with a screwdriver).

In any case, you will need to buy a seperate Memory Stick reader, as card readers do not come standard on most machines except Sony desktops/laptops.

Personally, I’d save a little more and hold out for a newer machine, but if you need one at that price badly enough, it’s not terrible. It’ll get the job done as long as they don’t decide to want to play Crysis. If anything, I would say the larger hard drive would be the most critical one for the things you want to do with it. It’ll work a little slower without the extra memory, but if you’re only doing internet, mp3 usage, and file transfer from cameras and such, it’ll be okay.
