What are the repurcussions of the assimilation of Hip Hop into mainstream America??

I asked this question because for the first time Hip Hop has become part of mainstream American music. Examples such as “Honky Tonk Badunkydunk” and the domination of Hip Hop artists on American pop charts clearly demonstrate this. However there is a horrible trend that accompanies this boom in popularity- there are hords of white people listening to hip hop music. This is not a bad thing except some white people are starting to think that because rap artists say the N word then it is ok for them to say it. This is a problem. Period.
I have encountered people who actually ask me how I could be offended by the N word and who throw around the N word as if it was just another word in the dictionary like boy or girl. This is a problem. It is imperative that America becomes aware of this disturbing trend and that people learn to educate their children about the history of this word because in my eyes it will never be ok for a white person to say it or ” depower” the word through usage.

First of all, we have empowered the word N^##$R overtime, it was originally nonoffensive and non derogatory. So, if it is offensive it IS because you allow it to be. It is clearly inappropriate, but to be offended is frankly ignorant and shows lack of historical knowledge.

Second, I don’t care much for hip hop myself, but whats the matter with it really? Sure, the songs are a little more graphic than songs use to be, but in the 80′s we had Prince, Rick James, and others singing about sex all the time. Aerosmith had songs about crossdressers.

In my opinion global warming, civil wars, and famines are much bigger problems than young people usely using a word that has recently come into fashion as being unfashionable.

I know I won’t get best answer since I didn’t agree with you, and that is what you were looking for, but thats ok.
