Jesus to Jay-Z: Who is Kanye walking with now..?
In a musical era where controversy seems to sell more albums than talent, superstar recording artist/ producer, Kanye West, has shown a special knack for being the topic of controversy.
This is not to say that the 12 time Grammy Award Winner is not talented. By now, most music fans are familiar with the “suburbs-to-riches” story which lead Kanye to drop out of college following his first year to pursue his career. At the tender age of 19, he already knew what he wanted and the steps he needed to take to get it. This faith, cunning, and determination is what lead him to the door of Roc-a-Fella Records, and the rest is history.
Early in his career, these qualities allowed him to meet the playaz in “the Industry.” Once he got his break, his musical talent sealed the deal.
According to Kanye, his mother was very supportive of his career right from the beginning and is the person who taught him to analyze situations critically, as well as, to always have faith in his own abilities.
“She always gave me support,” Kanye West said. “A lot of parents don’t train their kids to think.”
“You never know how words can save a person’s life, physically or otherwise. People like Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi . . . – people whose job it is – I see that in Kanye.”
–Dr. Donda West on her faith in her son’s abilities
When Kanye made it public that he intended to advance his career from producer to a rapper/performer in the early 2000s, many in the music industry expressed less than favorable views about his chances for success; this included people in his own camp, like Jay-Z. H.O.V.A. held the opinion that Kanye didn’t represent “the street image” and therefore, wouldn’t be taken seriously by true “hip hop headz.” While this may have been the case 10 years before when hip hop was still known as the “Black CNN”, in the 21st Century, with all the technological advancements in musical and electronic equipment, all forms of computer nerds had entered the mix. Many of these geeks weren’t as comfortable with the image or message of rappers like Ludacris or Li’l Wayne as they were with the more clean-cut Kanye West. Although known for his signature soulful, rich sound, he represented the Black guy that many Whites felt they had met in their integrated classrooms and suburban neighborhoods.
Whether one appreciates his music or not, his prowess as a businessman; his ability to critically and objectively analyze his situation and know what sells, is undeniable.
“Any publicity is good publicity.”–famous business quote
Right from the onset of his solo career, Kanye has lived, breathed, and ran with this slogan all the way to the bank…and right up the music charts.
Some famous episodes that we all remember are:
After his near-fatal automobile crash, despite suffering a broken jaw that was wired shut, Kanye recorded, Through the Wire, one of the hits off of his debut album, College Dropout.
Another controversial subject on his first release was, of course, Jesus Walks with Me, the song that calls on the name of the Son of Man, himself… This story actually culminated in 2006 on the front cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Here, Kanye’s depiction of himself as the crucified Christ stirred comments of indignation and support from all corners of the globe…great publicity stunt!
Three days after the release of his second album, Late Registration, on August 30, 2005, Kanye rocked the mainstream audience with his proclamation that, “…George Bush doesn’t care about Black people.” This statement endeared Kanye to many in the African-American community (to whom this was not news) while unnerving many folks in the mainstream. However, delighted or dismayed by his statement, one thing was clear: Kanye West’s name was on everyone’s lips just as his new album dropped…
Excellent advertising..?
In 2007, it appeared that Kanye went out of his way to change the release date for his next album, Graduation,to September 11th. There were two main schools of thought that were popularized at that time about why he chose this ominous date to release his third album:
The first is the simplest: he was looking to compete with 50 Cent, as “Fiddy” was also debuting his album, Curtis, on the same day. When asked for a comment to Kanye’s sudden change of release dates, 50 Cent responded that he would quit his career as a solo artist if his album didn’t outsell Graduation…which it didn’t!
The second theory is little more dark and murky. September 11th is, of course, forever infamous for the attack on the World Trade Center and all the mayhem and death that goes with that day. But it is believed by many that the date, September 11, was specifically chosen by the terrorists (whether those terrorists be Arabs, the CIA, or whomever) in order to take advantage of a certain energy that was known to manifest on that day due to a rare alignment of the planets in the solar system. This involves a deep study of Astrology and Metaphysics.
According to some of these occult theories, in order to have access to that power, a blood sacrifice is required.
Hence, the toppling of the towers back in ’01. Was Kanye attempting to align his career with this dark, mysterious energy?
In the first week following the 9/11/2007 release, Graduation debuted at Number One and sold almost a million copies; this is quite a feat in the “computer/ download age” of music.
In the months that followed, Kanye would mourn the death of his “best friend”, his mother, Dr. Donda West in November. At that time, one of the hits on his still hot album, Hey Mama, was a song that had been dedicated to his esteemed mother. While many of Kanye’s fans mourned his loss with him and dried their eyes every time they heard the chorus, “Hey mama…”, some people in the David Icke, occult circles took this opportunity to throw some dirt Kanye’s way, releasing statements that the success driven artist had sold his soul to the dark side by sacrificing his own blood and flesh, in the form of his mother, to gain success and riches in the music world.
Statements such as: “Kanye’s mother died from plastic surgery; who dies from plastic surgery?” circulated on occult and gossip blogs all around the world.
Then, at the 2008 Grammy Awards, held a few months following his tragic loss, when Kanye left the star studded event with 4 trophies, including “Best Rap Album”, the blood sacrifice advocates only got louder claiming this was the reward for his obedience.
‘Publicity, darling. Just publicity. Any kind is better than none at all.’ –Rhonda Farr, 1933
There have been so many run-ins with the media, famous outbursts at music award events, and egotistical comments, etc., that perhaps on the surface what appears to be separate, unrelated and egotistical or emotional incidents in the public’s eye, are actually well orchestrated, planned events designed to keep the audience tuned-in. If not, the man is a natural at being able to keep the attention of the masses focused in his direction.
His latest stunt at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where he snatched the microphone from Taylor Swift as she was giving her award speech for “Best Female Video”, and plainly stated that Beyonce deserved that award for her video “Single Ladies” (which later received the award for Best Choreography), even got the attention of the Oval Office, as President Obama chimed in, calling Kanye, “a jackass.” Kanye would, of course, later apologize, but the effect had already been felt all across the land…more talk, more criticism, more speculation…more publicity which equals more record sales.
Who is Kanye walking with Now..?
In his latest appearance at the BET Music Awards, Kanye sported a huge necklace of the ancient Egyptian god Horus (or Heru) as well as a three-finger Egyptian pyramid ring which he made certain everyone took notice of. Within hours, blogs and gossip columns were spewing with rumours of Kanye being a “devil worshipper.”
When asked, famous Metaphysician, Bobby Hemmitt, said that “if Kanye is wearing these icons, that is good, perhaps his conscious energy is rising.” This is a far cry from the mainstream occult circle of David Icke.
Question: What are the common denominators among Jesus, Jayhova and Heru.
They are all making a reference to a Christ figure, and…controversy, which leads to publicity and success…if your name is Kanye West.
Be on the lookout for Kanye West publicity stunts as we draw closer to the September 14th release of his still untitled project.
