Rate Jay-Z’s performance at Glastonbury, scale of 1-10. How great was it? Comments please.?
Part 1 here:
I’ve just watched Jay-Z’s performance at the Glastonbury music festival from this past weekend, where he seriously rocked the house. I’d say it was one of the best live rap/rock performances recorded. His opening diss of Noel Gallagher with the mock cover of “Wonderwall” sets the tone, as it responds to Gallagher’s comment that Glastonbury is for guitar bands, and hip-hop at the festival is wrong. Then Jay-Z segues into “99 problems” (“I’m like f*** critics, they can kiss my whole a**hole), doing it over heavy guitar riffs, most pointedly AC/DC’s “Back in Black.”
Other highlights of Jay-Z’s show include mixing “Smack My Bitch Up” with Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab”; “Encore” with Linkin Park’s “Numb”; an apparent freestyle rap on New Orleans / Katrina that concludes, F*** Bush; and closing with “Heart of the City” over U2′s “Sunday, Bloody Sunday.”
I wasn’t there but I watched the YouTube and two other online videos of his performance. The people who booked him knew exactly what they were doing. Yes, the festival is usually for “ROCK HEADS” but Jay-Z “ROCKED THE HOUSE” and everyone enjoyed it. He put on a performance that no one could have complained about. I give it an 11 out of 10.
