how does media influence hip hop?
usually, the media ruins whatever it touches
please note this may be somewhat long, but bear with me ok?

let’s define it
hip hop is a culture
the culture is made up of 4 basic elements:
emcee/rap
bboy/”breakdancing”
dj/turntables, mixing
tagger/graffiti
ok
media first destroyed bboying
what? what’s bboying?
you probably know it as “breakdancing”
it’s actually called “bboying,” and the media just took it in the 80′s as eye candy and made some money off of it
oh yeah, and they called it “breakdancing”
nowadays, the real bboys call the breakdancing sellout “breakdancers”
example: mike garcia
so note, not all people who bboy like to be called “breakdancers”
the media aims for the wrong hip hop …. i dont know how to say it
but basically, let’s look
look through the yahoo! answers questions about rap
most people say rap is all about gangstas, etc.
some of those answers are even voted as the best!
the media looked towards 50 cent as a great rapper
why? i dont know. he got shot 3 times? (he got shot 3 times; he got shot AT 9 times, but only 3 hit him)
50 cent gives rap a bad reputation by rapping about “gangstas, hoes,” etc.
so the media is pretty much hip-hop’s enemy
it blew up some elements and then left it to rot
