Hip Hop Meanings

What are some songs that have meaningful/ exciting lyrics? (no rap/ hip hop please)?
I’m mostly into rock/ punk/ classic rock, but if the song is good I can get into other genres (except for the ones above). I’m filling up a journal with lyrics to songs that have a funny/ deep meanings. I don’t want anything with extremely repetitive choruses or long instrumental sections because, again, it’s all about the lyrics.
Here are some songs that I have so far;
The Special Two by Missy Higgins,
A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold,
Do Better by Say Anything,
Imagine by John Lennon
and Describing the Sky by Big D and the Kids Table.
Thanks in advance!
If you like poetic and intellectual lyrics with lots of meaning then Bob Dylan has tons of them.
REM are really good too. What do you mean by a funny/deep meaning, none of the songs you have mentioned I would call funny. What do you want the themes of the lyrics to be about?

The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill $6.60 The first solo album by the Fugees’ most distinctive voice quickly wipes away the pretensions of so many current hip-hoppers’ discs. It does so by both engaging their widescreen ethos–”To Zion,” with its martial drums and gospel choir, is as epic a production as has been heard in 1998′s pop music–and speaking the plain truth. Miseducation focuses equally on Lauryn Hill’s life (especially the bir… |
