Hip Hop Matters Summary
How can I become less distracted by music?
I am a college student that has trouble studying when I listen to music. I am trying to be like most other my age, and listen to music (everything from hip-hop, rap, drum n’ bass, techno, country, classical, orchestral, jazz, literally everything). But it seems no matter what type of music I am listening to, it always seems to find a way into my head by taping to the beat or conducting to it (like you would for classical/orchestral music). Unfortunately, both of my parents are music teachers and musicians so it seems their passion for music has made its way into me. I have tried the iDoser series with no success How can I be productive in studying for a wide variety of subjects at college when almost whatever I hear, I unintentionally find a beat, rhythm, or tempo? In summary, whenever I hear some form of music, my mind focuses almost completely on the music.
LOL…you’re lucky. i like to do that, but somehow when i listen to music when i study it’s like i shut it out as noise….for example, if i go to a cafe to study & there are people talking, i wouldn’t be able to concentrate b/c it’s like One lady is talking on the left, then i hear a bang on the right, someone is picking up a chair behind me, the coffee machines are making hella noise in fronna me…all these distractions, but the music is consistent. I put on music to drown out that other shiit. I hate that. I don’t want to devalue the music like that.
& then there is when i’m at home & there are no distractions, w/o music it’s way too quiet & i get frustrated & fidgety The music keeps me on track.
Sometimes i will get into the music & start bouncing around & forget to focus on my shiit…then all of a sudden i have read an entire page that i have to read again…lol
I would say that the way you listen to music let’s you get the most out of it….if you are doing nothing but focusing on the music it is more beautiful than if you just regard it as background noise, ya digg what i mean? I think you should just get earplugs for when you study…lmao.
If you can’t study with music, why force yourself to?
Peace

The Hip Hop Wars: What We Talk About When We Talk About Hip Hop–and Why It Matters $5.18 Hip-hop is in crisis. For the past dozen years, the most commercially successful hip-hop has become increasingly saturated with caricatures of black gangstas, thugs, pimps, and ’hos. The controversy surrounding hip-hop is worth attending to and examining with a critical eye because, as scholar and cultural critic Tricia Rose argues, hip-hop has become a primary means by which we talk about race … |
