Can I get into UNC Chapel Hill?
I have a 4.2 GPA, 1890 SAT (580 Verbal, 640 Math, 670 Writing), I did martial arts for 10 years, piano for 9 years, science national honor society, national honor society, NJROTC one year, im president of hinduism youth group, president of alt. hip hop club, tae kwon do instructor, i speak 2 extra languages, and im indian (India).
I got in to UNC about 5 years ago, and they definitely do count higher than a 4.0 GPA. I’m not sure what their average SAT is on the new system, but when I applied it was a 1250 on the 1600 scale. It looks like you’re in that range as well. They reserve 75% of their spots for in-state students. I’m not sure if you’re saying that you live in India, or if you have Indian heritage. If you’re in-state with those numbers, you shouldn’t have a problem. If you’re out of state you may have some more trouble, but I think you’d be alright. Your minority background will also help a lot.
UNC is a great school, but if you’re looking to go to school in the area, you might want to check out Duke, which is just down the road. It’s hella expensive, but it’s worth it for the school’s reputation and the brilliant professors.
