Can you help with my DJ question? Please!!!?

I’m interested in getting into Deejaying, specifically Hip Hop Deejaying as that is the music I’m interested in however, I cannot hear and calculate the BPMs of the record. I find it really difficult to seperate the different drum parts in my mind when I’m listening to a record especially if there are vocals too. I’m a smart guy with a good ear for music and I think I should be able to do this. Any suggestions as to how I can do this.

It just takes practice, maybe if you looked up the BPMs for a song then thought about that while you are trying to calculate it you might get better. It all just takes practice.

Also, DJ stands for “Disk Jockey”, so you wouldn’t ever write out “Deejaying”, because it’s litterally “DJing”, or Disk Jockeying (but that doesn’t really sound gramatically correct, so just say DJing).

Ignoring current rap trends–i.e., Kanye West-style sampling and speeding up of old soul loops–Ghostface doesn’t mask his samples or up the b.p….
