Is mp3 quality good enough for a live gig??
I’m beginning to purchase music for my dj collection and would like to know if stores like the itunes music store provide good enough music to play at live gigs. I do not want to buy cds because most likely only 1 song will be popular. Will the people on the dance floor notice the difference between the mp3 itunes quality and original cd quality? And how important is music quality when Djing?
If you are serious about this, you need quality input and output.
Basically, you need lossless/true CD quality audio going through good equipment and out some good speakers.
Depending on your audience, they may or may not notice the quality. Some music is played so loud that it is just not noticable. But at the same time, there is a difference between loud, mushed up noise and loud, clear music where you can distinguish instruments and sounds.
MP3 files are good for personal, headphone listening and for low end equiptment. Their low quality is usually noticable when played through high end speakers or at loud levels. The reason for this is that their compression cuts out frequencies.
