Christian Music Industry Jobs

Christian group Avalon? Jody McBrayer? What are Jody’s plans after he departs the band?
He is leaving the group at the end of this year due to a serious heart condition. Do any of you fans out there know what he plans to do afterwards? Producing? Regular job? I hope he stays in the music industry in some way. Music is truly his gift.
After nearly 12 years with award-winning vocal group Avalon, founding member Jody McBrayer steps down due to pressing health issues. The group, although saddened by McBrayer’s departure, will continue to record albums and tour nationally.
In March, McBrayer was diagnosed with a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. The disease, although manageable, often affects an individual’s ability to undertake physical work, as in McBrayer’s case. After much prayer and lengthy discussions with his family, doctors and the members of Avalon, McBrayer will resign from Avalon, focusing on his health and his family’s welfare.
“The past 12 years have been such a tremendous blessing, and I am thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given as part of this amazing group,” says McBrayer. “While the decision to leave Avalon saddens me, I feel that it is necessary in order to prolong my health both for myself and my family. I am so thankful for the love and support that my family has received from Janna, Greg and Melissa through this challenging time in our lives.”
“I am saddened to see Jody leave Avalon,” says Avalon’s Janna Long. “He has walked this amazing road with me from the very beginning. And while we will all miss him tremendously as an outstanding vocalist and friend, I know it is in his best interest to step down and take care of himself. Even though he will not be performing with us, we all look forward to his friendship lasting a lifetime.”
Currently McBrayer is in the studio recording his last record with Avalon, which is slated to release this September. The project will be a collection of classic CCM songs, selected by the group for their personal and professional impact on each of its members. The songs, recorded in true Avalon-style, showcase the foursome’s steady, stellar vocal performances on hits like Sandi Patty and Wayne Watson’s duet “Another Time, Another Place,” “El Shaddai” by Amy Grant, “For The Sake of The Call” by Steven Curtis Chapman and First Call’s “The Reason We Sing,” among others. McBrayer will travel with Avalon through the end of the year on its 40-city fall tour.
Avalon, considered a versatile standard in Christian music since 1996, continues to sing classic ballads and singable, spine-tingling pop songs with commanding vocals as well as compelling lyrics. With more than three million in sales worldwide, the band additionally has 20 number one radio hits to its credit. For more information on Avalon, visit www.avalonlive.com or www.sparrowrecords.com.
