Boo Hip Hop Meaning

Is “boo” derived from “beau”?
I’ve learned on hip-hop songs, starting w/ “My Boo” from The Ghosttown DJs (1996) that “boo” means significant other. I’m not quite sure if the hip-hop culture had this in mind, but could “boo” be a derivative of the near-archaic boy-/girlfriend synonym “beau”? [pronounced “Bo”}
Yes it is.
Originally derived from the French word “beau” which came to mean boyfriend in the English language. Beau sounds enough like ‘boo’ to were eventually the sound shifted as well as the spelling to a more conventional English word. The word came through the African-American lexicon and can be heard in music from this genre.
