Basic Hip Hop Terminology

when is the best time of year to start taking dance? (ballet, jazz, pointe, etc)?

im 14 in 9th grade and during spring ive decided not to do soccer but maybe try dance

i already know where i would go and i woudl most likely take one or more of either ballet, tap, jazz, possibly hip-hop, and eventually pointe!

i danced for a few years when i was younger but i really want to try again!

my questions are:
1.will i be able to start a class in spring?

2.do people usually start in fall?

3. will i be in a “teen class” or a level? i dont even know the basic positions and terminology but i
am trying to memorize them before i begin

4.i know i cannot start pointe until i have mastered the basics but how long does it usually take?

5. if i like it, will i be able to balance dance and also other sports such as field hockey and swimming(daily practices, one in fall one in winter)

Hopefully the school you picked has a teen beginner level or they will either put you with your own age and you will be lost or with 7 and 8 year olds.
If you wish to dance en pointe, you must take ballet and more then one class of ballet a week. 2 or maybe 3 a week. You cannot start pointe until you can do Everything well on flat. Not just the basics. You not only must have strong ballet technique, you must have strong ankles, feet, legs, core and balance. This takes years. If you go en ponte too soon you will only hurt yourself. Some people can never go en pointe, but most with good training and feet can.
If you plan on taking all these dance classes, I cannot see how you can keep up with all of your sports. You will have to choose which you want to do.
If you start in a recital or competition school you will not be able to start in the spring. They have their shows and competitions then and many close for the summer to open at the start of the new school year. If it is a serious school, they may have a summer Intensive or shut down for the summer so their students can go to other dance intensives. If you live in or near a big city, you may be able to take open classes at a dance academy during the summer. Dance is a huge commitment. It takes up more time then any of the sports you have listed. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
